The Boston Personality Project

In October 2021 a project, intended to be long-term, will begin in Boston in Lincolnshire. The aim is to help all those who have personality problems and who are attending the mental health services in this population of 60,000. The project has two components; identifying all those who have these problems and then tailoring treatment to suit each of them. This will involve nidotherapy and other environmental forms of management, drama therapy, promotion of personality strengths and acceptance sessions. We will also be assessing its effectiveness in terms of cost – if we are genuinely helping the costs per patient will fall.

First report: October 1st is the census day for this project. 719 patients have been identified and their assessments and progress will be followed month by month. It will take some time for the effects of our help, which also includes self-help and the promotion of personality strengths, to become clear but we have to move slowly.
